Work Experience
Operations Research Engineer, Wheels Up
Aug 2021 - Mar 2023
- As the Data Science team's next generation R&D effort, developed efficient heuristic for fractional jet ownership services' planning and scheduling.
- Tested and demonstrated the value of flex-related implementation style and associated parameters, which allows flexibility for a random set of customers' departure time.
- Proposed alternative crew rest scenarios and reported the total operational impact, leading to changes in crew duty hours for the month of July 2022.
- Modernized and improved the Legacy Optimization Engine by replacing the existing commercial solver (CPLEX to Gurobi) to run applications on Virtual Machines.
- Developed Crew Scheduling Optimizer product requirements by consulting with different operators' Crew Scheduling teams.
Graduate Research Assistant, National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant
Jan 2019 - Jul 2021 See Details on NSF Webpage
- Investigated two fundamental issues: efficient crowdsourcee-request assignment and relocating idle crowdsourced individuals (crowdsourcees) to further improve assignment efficiency.
- As a team-leader of this project, developed a novel learning-based approach to tackle the crowdsourcee-request assignment.
- Developed a queueing network-based framework to characterize crowdshipping system performance at the macroscale.
Graduate Research Assistant, DSC Logistics Funded Project
Aug 2016 - Jan 2017
- Studied DSC Logistics (a 3PL) Pricing Behavior in Spot Markets.
- Conducted statistical tests, econometric modeling, and scenario analysis employing DSC and DAT proprietary data.
- Analyzed DSC's pricing practice and compared with DAT rates, detailed by lane and time.
- Provided recommendations to DSC on future pricing strategies.
Graduate Research Assistant, Urban Transportation Center at UIC
Jan 2017 - Dec 2017
- Assisted in preparing the Illinois Long Range Transportation Plan.
- Conducted rail traffic analysis using the 2014 U.S. Surface Transportation Board Carload Waybill Sample.
- Presented freight flows by key commodities, directional flows and geographic markets.
